Lemme give a couple of personal updates...
My Current Movie
I went and saw "Phone Booth" the other night. Some will say it's a Colin Ferrell movie when asked. Uh uh. It's a Colin Ferrell/Keifer Sutherland movie. KS is unbelievably good using only his voice. The movie had way too much harsh language. I'd have to say it was gratuitous at times. But the theme was so well played. It’s the time honored and many times done story of redemption. That’s all I’ll say about it as not to give anything away. I love stories of redemption. I guess that is why I am a huge Buffy and Angel TV series fan. The greatest story of redemption ever told was the gospel. The story of the redemption offered each of us. And now, 2000 years later, we continue to tell new stories of redemption. Why do we love them so much? Because deep down we all know just how lousy we are. And it is amazing how many people pass up the chance for their own personal and permanent redemption. If you don't have a clue what I am talking about, drop me a line at rdwagner@chartertn.net.
My Current Music
I’ve listened a lot lately to Caleb Carruth’s debut album “Darkness Falls”. To learn more about Caleb and his album go to http://www.calebcarruth.com/. He’s done quite a bit of Praise and Worship touring with Shane Barnard and Shane Everrett and this album does have a few worship songs on it. He has an easy going acoustic sound and so many of the songs he penned for this album strike at my own heart. The song Vegas tells the story of a missed chance to share the Gospel. I can’t tell you how many chances I have missed.
I also went to a Jars of Clay/Caedmon’s Call double bill concert. In a word, it was awesome. That these guys can both rock and be calmingly worshipful from song to song and show to show is a testament to God working in their lives. In a world where so many musicians are angry and full of bile, these guys are uplifting and give us a great reminder of what it is all about, all while a great time! I wish more Christians would steer themselves away from all the negative stuff out there and towards guys and girls like this. They are high quality musicians making high quality music. I have friends who won’t give the time of day because it simply is not cool, in, or macho enough to listen to. I have a feeling that is where many people stand when it comes to Christian Music. Those same people flock to a band like Creed who are in many respects spiritual, but misguided and distorted. If you are looking for spirituality in your music, why not try someone who has the truth and is singing about it! Ok, I’m gonna get off my soapbox now.
Suh-weet... If I had money to throw away, I'd be all over this...
