I had a good time with the youth group last night. We did a lesson on controlling our egos and learning how to take a back seat to someone else, gracefully, when the situation calls for. It was a topic that hit home with me and was easy to teach on considering how ego-maniacal I have been in the past and at times can be even now. We discussed some examples of folks in the Bible who did this well. My example was John the Baptist. He knew he was only there to proclaim Christ and though he could have gotten others to follow him instead, he didn't. He said "He must become greater; I must become less." I've never had an easy time being that way. If I can' t be in the lead or the center of things I become uncomfortable. I can go into group situations telling myself, "OK, you aren't going to say anything, or inject yourself into the conversations." I do this just to see if I can. A few minutes in, and I'm all over it, controlling and leading. So pray for me. Not that I'd be humble, because for the most part I am. Pray that I'll learn to make the backseat more comfortable and that I wouldn't find myself back there in the middle on the hump. (anyone who grew up in the 70's and 80's probably know what I am talking about there. your folks had one of those cars.)
