My latest RotK thoughts...

I haven't seen it again but will this weekend. Most people see the books as being about Frodo. They see him as the main character. I never really have . I am a part of a group of LotR fans who Feel Samwise Gamgee is really who it is all about. I really think that Peter Jackson agrees with me. He is the friend friend to the end. If you haven't seen the movie or read the books, stop reading now. Ok, you were warned. When he says he can't carry the ring but "I can carry you" to Frodo, I nearly lost it. I immediately thought of Jesus and the work of the cross. And that was just one moment that got me. There were so many more. You look at the friendships in this story... Sam/Frodo, Gandalf/Bilbo, Merry/Pippin, Legolas/Gimli, Aragorn/the Hobbits, Aragorn/Elrond, and on and on. I watch/read and think, "Man, I want a Sam!" or "Gracious, I want an Aragorn". I wish someone would look at me in spite of being a Dwarf, er, imperfect human, and say "friend". Hey, wait, there is someone who has all of these qualities and none of the bad ones! And he's already my friend!

That's what this movie does for me. For others, they will never see the divine. They will never admit that Tolkiens beliefs came through. They will only see the WWII parralells and nothing else. That's really sad.
