Everyone is weighing in on the new Incubus album. I, like everyone else, was in great anticipation of this album. I loved S.C.I.E.N.C.E and Make Yourself was awesome. Can't say I was a fan of Fungus Amongus, but hey, they were still learning the ropes. Morning View was solid, but didn't grab me like MY. So now we are up to A Crow Left of the Murder. I am not going to be going through the tracks. Ernie and Steve did a great job of that already. I pretty much agree with a combo of their takes minus a little. 3 listens and I was ready to go back to an album I really love. That is enough for me to know this was a let down and only worthy of a 2 out of 5. Sorry, no cool graphics or ratings system. I have a theory about what has happened. When they started, they were a little deeper, more though provoking. They have slowly slid away from this and now seem to be trying to be something they are not. I don't know them, or hang out with them, but I say this because I have seen a couple of documentary type deals on them. They do not live their lives the way their music of the past has painted them. They are regular guys, who joke around, love their families, and are generally fairly grounded dudes. They aren't nearly as melancholy as their music would suggest. Here is where the problems come in. When your everyday life and your stage persona diverge, I believe the music is eventually going to suffer. That may be why Ernie thought this album felt 'forced'. You can only try to be who you are not for so long before it catches up to you... And as always, I could be totally wrong.
My predication on Mike's review is that he'll go on and on about how good it is. And that is cool.
