Well, Ernie didn't lift his curse and I suffered all weekend for it. I guess I deserved it and in the future I will try and let Ernie be bitter if he so desires.
Friday night I took the youth group at church to a Christian Concert at Freedom Hall. At a price of only $10 this show was a steal. There were 5 acts and it was a really good event. It started with a new artist named Jaydn Maria. She is a toned down Christian version of the bubble gum pop made famous by Britney and the likes. She did 2 songs and while she was good at what she does, it was very forgettable. Next came another new artist by the name of Todd Agnew. I got to meet and talk with him in the youth pastor area before the concert. Nice guy, very unassuming, and an obvious heart for the Lord. However, he is very much on the Creed sound bandwagon in some of his songs. He did do a very good version of Open the Eyes of My Heart Lord and his take on Amazing Grace was refreshing. Newsong, the group who hosts the event every year, were next on stage. I've never been a big fan as they are of the Adult Contemporary ilk. I have to say this though, they were very very good live. They and the guys who fill out the rest of their band are very accomplished musicians and singers. I met their lead guy and group founder earlier in the evening and he was just a kind and caring fellow. He said the only reason they do these is to see young people come to the Lord. With tickets so cheap, that is obvious. Toward the end of their set he gave his testimony. The guy had lived a rough life in his early 20's and nearly died one night due to drugs. Without Jesus, he's sure he'd be dead already. They had an alter call and as a youth leader I headed down to the counseling area. We were to take 1 or 2 kids, pray with them, and give them some encouragement and point them to a church as new Christians. 189 young people were saved on Friday night and that is just awesome. After a short intermission, Sonicflood came on-stage. I haven't seen them live since Jeff Deyo left the group, but they were solid. I've always liked their take on Praise and Worship music and they didn't let down. Now, the headline group, and one of my alltime favs, Audio Adrenaline took the stage. I guess I've seen them 10 times live and it's never been a let down. These guys rock and have the whole 'rock star' thing down, but again, you just feel and see that it's not about them. They did standards like Big House, I Get Down, and Mighty Good Leader while throwing in some newer stuff from their Worldwide album. They ended with a cover of "We're An American Band" as a huge flag unfurled behind them. It was a fun evening and the kids really enjoyed themselves.
Saturday, Evette's cousin dropped off her 3 kids and they stayed through Sunday evening. Yes, we had 6 kids in the house this weekend. It was interesting to say the least, but overall things went well. When they left all 6 kids still had both eyes, all their fingers and toes, and no broken bones. What a miracle.
Ernie's Arena Football league rounded out the weekend. I was a lamer and attended via chat, but hey, he's the one who made me get sick.
Today has started off relatively well here at work. My job is finally just an extension of myself. Which means, I have all of my duties down to a science. It is very helpful being at the point where things are second nature and you do them without thinking.
