Hey, Ya Know What?

Well, how about a weekend update? This was one of the better weekends I've had in a while, if for no other reason it didn't seem to fly by. Evette and I went to a dinner that my church hosted Saturday night for Valentines day. It was really very nice and extremely 'grown up'. Of course, I was still just me. Most of the men were wearing ties, jackets, and even suits. Not me. I wore some baggy, almost trendy, khakis and a long sleeve button up, untucked of course. Add the low cut boots and I was quite oblique looking like as well as being the youngest guy there. I just don't do ties and Jackets. Heck, on Sunday morning I am up front as long or longer than anyone playing and leading worship and I'll wear baggy jeans. I am so over the whole dress up for church thing. If I can't be who I am the other six days a week when I join my brothers and sisters on Sunday to worship, then what is the point? And I don't say that while thumbing my nose. I can't be me or be effective if I am faking it. It's just like the guy who loves a suit and wears one all week long. He is not going to be real if he comes in with jeans and a shirt hanging out. As long as you are modest and clean, you should wear what makes you comfortable. Anyway, I think everyone at church just writes it off as, 'well, he's a worship leader and musician and that is just how they dress..." :)

Let me back up.... Friday night I took little Ricky out Valentines shopping for the girls. It was cool to get out, just me and him. I don't get to do that enough. I dealt with little girls so long, I am still getting this 'raising a boy' thing down. It is so different. As far as these early years, I think that girls are easier. But as they get to be teens, who knows, that may flip flop. I expect it to. I also expect to scare the crap out of many a young man.

Yesterday was the Daytona 500 and it was moderately entertaining. Then the All-Star game... Uh, if anyone wonders why the NBA is trouble and are loosing fans and money in a large way, just look at this game. Sure, it was close. Sure, there were some exciting moments. But people, that was not basketball being played on that court. It was basically street ball. Do whatever you want, no whistles. Three and four steps on layups and dunks is old hat now. No one can really shoot all that well from 15-18 feet anymore. Dunks and highlight reels are nice, but please, can we get some substance? There are more fundamentals displayed up on Monte Vista! It's all chocolate cake without any meat and potatoes. NBA basketball is simply an ugly game now. Add to it the overabundance of thugs in the league and I just say, "What's the point?".
