I have laid a little low on the latest round of musical discussion. So here goes... First, I pretty much agree along the lines of Clint as far as the list he found and commented on. One place I disagree with Clint is the In Through The Out Door album. I personally feel it gets a bad rap. Sure, it's different than there other stuff. But so was IV, Houses of the Holy, Presence, etc. When bands don't evolve and change, we say all their albums sound alike. When they do, we tend to say they sold out or got weird or whatever. That album was still a part of their larger body of work and has a lot of good songs on it. Maybe I am biased and sentimental, but I remember riding around in my Mom's VW Bug in '79 and hearing Fool In the Rain and All of My Love. Before Clint was born I might add. :) And those songs bring back good memories of childhood. Anyway, just wanted to defend what many think of as their 'bastard' album.
Speaking of in through the out door... I am going to say some things about an artist that may get me a little heat, but I don't care. I heard some of the new Prince album Musicology recently. It's pretty darn good. See, I have always been a Prince fan. You hear the terms Musical Prodigy, or Genius thrown around often enough about artists. Well, those terms are not wasted on Prince and you won't convince me otherwise. Don't confuse his weirdness and eccentric ways for bad music. Sign o The Times is right up there with some of the best records ever. The guy can play any instrument and is very accomplished at both Guitar and Piano. And now, in hindsight, we can forgive his "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" days since we now know he was in a fight with Warner Brothers over the 'Prince' catalog and the whole things was to get some freedom from them and smack them around a little. And I always pull for an artist over a record company. They are evil. Anyway, he has never been given his due on our Blogring and I don't mind sticking my neck out there for the dude amongst friends. So what did in through the out door have to do with Prince? She wore a raspberry beret....
