Hey, Ya Know What?

Ok, the concert last night was just great. I haven't enjoyed myself that much in a long time. It opened with Warren Barfield. I didn't know much about this dude and had only heard one song of his before this show. It was just him and his guitar. He did 5 songs and was just fantastic. He has sort of a John Mayer/Dave Matthews kind of vibe going on and really isn't that far from their level. He came out later to do I Have Always Loved you with Third Day. I was very impressed with this guy.

Next up was Toby Mac. Now look, I am not the biggest rap fan in the world. As a solo artist, Toby has gone back to his hip hop roots and the music he loves. I have been a fan of DC Talk since I saw the video for Heavenbound on BET's Rap City back in '90. Toby did a great great job last night. His band was tight and the female singer he had with him was spectacular. It really appealed to my 'younger' side. After the show I got to meet Toby. I told him about seeing them for the first time back in '90 on BET. He immediately give me dap and seemed very pleased to talk to a fan that wasn't 13 and just came on board last month. We shared an old-school moment I guess you'd say. He was very down to earth and stayed signing autographs for 30 minutes after the whole concert was over. That's rare folks.

Ok, Third Day takes the stage. This is one of my alltime favorite bands, bar none. These guys both rock your face off and lead a crowd into a great worship experience. They did all the stand bys but what I found to be refreshing and cool was them going back and digging deep when they performed Blackbird from their debut album. It's one of my favorite songs and I was pleased to here it live again. They did 2 songs off the album they have coming out it May. If they are any indication of the rest of the album, we will not be disappointed. "Wire" was an especially good song and the title track of the album. Oh yeah, they did do "God of Wonders". But thankfully, God is bigger than me and used it as a great worship time.

Overall, the whole show was fantastic. I'd say we got a total of about 2.5 to 3 hours of music from the 3 acts. That's a pretty good considering none of it was 'filler'.
