Hey, Ya Know What?

You may remember a few months ago that I was posting a few things about the Emerging Church, or church in a postmodern world. Well, the things going on at our church have me and others asking lots of questions. Where would we go? What kind of building/set up would we move to? So, I went to the web and started reading lots and lots of things asking similar questions. And that lead me to a site for a church whose name I have loved since I first heard it. It was started by the Christian band, Five Iron Frenzy. The name of the church? Scum of the Earth. I'm sorry, but that is just too cool. They asked themselves a question before they started. "If you were to create a church that would be the kind of place in which you could be yourself, to which you could invite friends and they'd feel comfortable, what would it look like?" I think this is a wonderful question. God's word and truth do not change. He doesn't change. The culture we live in does though. And the methods used in many other areas of life to affect people do as well. The way we have church or the where can be changed without God's word and truth changing. Not sitting in pews doesn't change those things. Singing music with a different kind of beat or phrasing doesn't change those things. A Pastor who can tell stories and not rely solely on bulletpoints won't change those things.

So, I'll ask that question above. If you are reading this, I challenge you to imagine what the church would look like and share your vision with me. Maybe I'll share mine when I come up with it...
