Nothing's gonna change my world

I watched the Grammy's all the way through last night for the first time in a long time. Here are my thoughts. Overall, I liked the show.

I can not believe it took till 2005 for Led Zeppellin, Janis Joplin, and the Carter's to get their lifetime Grammy achievement awards. That is beyond a travesty. ---- Alicia Keys. Wow. That girl can sang. The Ray Charles tribute that she and Jamie Foxx did was surprisingly good.---- Melissa Ethridge. The bald hair via cancer treatment was shocking. Whether you like her or not or agree with the way she lives her life, that woman can flat out sing some rock and roll. The Jans Joplin tribute was unbelievably good because of her voice.---- Loretta Lynn and Jack White accepting the country album award. I am not the biggest White Stripes fan, but Jack's sincer respect for LL by continally answering her, "Yes ma'am", was just, well, gosh darn it, sweet.---- J-Lo and MArc Anthony performance. That skit that they did along with the song was ridiculous.---- The Southern Rock tribute. Skynyrd and the rest of the old guys were great. Keith Urban was very good. Gretchen Wilson and Tim McGraw should have tuned up the ole voice first.---- John Mayer's performance of 'Daughters' was really good. That is one of my favorite songs of the past year. He won the songwriter award for it and it was well deserved. Los Lonely Boys, Maroon5, and Franz Ferdinand were good in the opening act.

The worst for last... The ensemble performance of the Beatles 'Across the Universe' was a complete trainwreck. Nora Jones, wow, off key doesn't do justice. Stevie Wonder really needs to quit this mumbling thing he has picked up over the last 10 or 15 years. Alicia Keys sounded good, but didn't sing the melody even close to correct. The rest were either as bad or just so so. And this was for tsunami relief. Anthony Lapaglia introduced it as, "history about to be made'. It was history alright. The history of all that money they hoped to raise. At least Velvet Revolver got to do the music. And how bad did Weiland look, yikes!

  • It's a good thing I didn't see that travashamockery of a cover. I'm even more glad that Hoosh didn't see it. I think it's a great homage for great (or so-called great) musicians to get together and cover Beatles' songs, but that doesn't mean they have to butcher them to death, does it?
