Lily Ruth Fluff
Lily is a 9 year old  fluffy Pembroke Welsh Corgi who was turned over to the humane society because her elderly owner was ill could no longer care for her. He saved her life by telling the shelter workers that she needs special powder to digest her food. They passed the information on when we rescued her.
Lily has Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) and malabsorption syndrome.
Dogs with EPI are unable to digest food unless they receive supplementary enzymes.  Lily had almost starved to death, even though she was eating.  She only weighed 18 lbs., and she also was covered in sores from the hundreds of fleas she had.

Lily's middle name "Ruth" is in honor of our friend Grandma Ruthie McAllister in Michigan, whose family's hearing dog, Christopher Robin, went to the Rainbow Bridge the day before Lily was rescued.  Chris was also a fluff and a shelter dog.

We weren't sure Lily would live those first few weeks.  She had huge patches of bare skin, and she looked like a walking skeleton.  We grind her i/d kibble in a food grinder and mix it with warm water and enzymes till it is soupy.  All her pills have to be crushed into her food, too.  Anything she eats without enzymes "appears later" in its original form.  She eats 4 small meals a day to keep from stressing her pancreas.
We had forgotten to tell Lily that she might not live.  She prayed every night to be fat and fluff.  And slowly but surely she grew both in outer fluff and inner fluff.
A month after leaving the shelter, Lily was up to 21 lbs.
Lily celebrated her weight gain by playing with her soccer ball, sleeping under the Christmas tree.
Lily made her friends at CorgiAid a special valentine.  Truly her heart and pancreas belong to them.  Without their help, Lily wouldn't have survived!
Spring has sprung and Lily is blossoming.  On March 6, 2003 she finally weighed 23.2 lbs.  EPI is manageable, but she'll always need a her prescription diet and her enzymes, or she could be back like she was before.

As our corgi mix Barney the Corgihuahua says, "praise Da Boss Hissef!"
Praise The Boss indeed!
Welcome to Lily's Pad
